Lundy Projects is a family-formed, civil engineering company based in Stockport. It started life as a general fabrication and welding company, before experiencing a rapid period of growth in 2014, when it was awarded a place on Network Rail’s preferred supplier list.

Now working predominantly in the rail industry, the company employs over 250 people, with an annual turnover of more than £40 million.

The Challenge

As an approved Principal Contractor, which enables Lundy to work directly for Network Rail, the company was provided with a substantial amount of work manufacturing railway gantries and support structures for the refurbishment and electrification of the UK’s railway infrastructure.

The volume of work meant that it needed additional facilities so, alongside the existing workshop in Stockport, the firm acquired a welding and fabrication facility in Irlam and began the process of expanding its workforce.

At this point, in 2014, Employment Solutions pitched to work with the rapidly growing business. As a local agency, we were well-positioned to provision both sites at Stockport and Irlam. More importantly, we were able to demonstrate our depth of knowledge and range of experience in understanding the type of welders and platers they required for their work. The speed in which we are able to mobilise shop-floor skilled tradesmen to meet Lundy’s requirements sealed the deal.

The Results

Since becoming a recruitment partner, we have played a major role in the hiring of welders and platers on an ongoing contract basis. Lundy Projects has utilised Employment Solutions’ ability to provide a flexible workforce to meet the peaks and troughs in their workload.

To date, we have sent over 276 CVs and placed 127 skilled and semi-skilled workers from just 76 interviews. Our relationship with Lundy is so strong that in most cases they invite contractors to start work without an interview - a sure sign of their trust in the quality of our service.

The Future

Over the past few years, we have built up a strong working relationship at director and workshop-manager level at Lundy, by consistently providing a reliable service that they can trust. With multiple forthcoming railway projects lined up across the UK, the partnership is set to continue long into the future.
