About Us
Our client is a long-established engineering company based on a seven-acre site in Atherton, near Manchester. We specialise in manufacturing medium to heavy engineered components for the Mining, Oil & Gas, and Power Generation industries.
With a reputation for excellence, we offer large-capacity CNC machining capabilities - handling components up to 13 metres in length and 35 tonnes in weight. Our comprehensive in-house facilities include flame-cutting, forging, fabrication, CNC and conventional machining, and component testing. We employ a highly skilled workforce and are committed to quality and precision.
The Role
We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced CNC Vertical Borer to join our machining team. The ideal candidate will be apprentice-trained or time-served, with the ability to program, set, and operate medium to large capacity CNC lathes and vertical borers (with over 2.5m swing, handling components up to 10 tonnes), using Fanuc Controls.
Key Responsibilities
Program, set, and operate large CNC vertical borers using Fanuc control systems
Write new CNC programs from technical drawings and edit existing ones
Use Fanuc canned cycles effectively
Work independently from engineering drawings to tight tolerances
Apply knowledge of modern tooling and machining methods
Maintain quality and safety standards
Centre lathe experience (DSG) including screw cutting, taper turning, and using 4-jaw chucks and copy turning attachments is advantageous
Shift Options & Hours
Day Shift (39 hours per week):
Monday to Thursday: 6:45am - 3:15pm
Friday: 6:45am - 2:15pm
Rate of Pay: £20.32/hour
Holiday Entitlement: 33 days (including 8 statutory)
Afternoon Shift (36 hours per week):
Monday to Thursday: 3:00pm - 12:00am
Rate of Pay: £25.39/hour
Holiday Entitlement: 28 days (including 8 statutory)

Required Experience & Skills
Fully skilled, time-served or apprentice-trained machinist
Strong experience with Fanuc CNC programming and controls
Comfortable with large components and heavy-duty machining
Ability to work independently from technical drawings
Knowledge of modern machining techniques and tooling
Centre lathe experience is an advantage
