IR35 Reforms for private sector set to roll out April 2021

UPDATE - Want to know more about IR35? Click here to visit our IR35 hub.

Reforms to IR35 in the private sector are set to roll out in April 2021 with MP's approval of amendments to the finance bill.

The reform was due to roll out this year, but the government delayed the implementation due to the coronavirus outbreak. There were calls to postpone the rollout further, to 2023, but the government rejected this.

From April 6th next year, medium and large businesses in the private sector will take on the responsibility of administering their contractors IR35 status. The reform means that recruitment agencies and hiring companies will take on the liability for IR35 status decisions, similar to the reform in the public sector in 2017.
