Job description

An experienced Design Manager is required to lead and coordinate civil engineering design activities on a major nuclear and heavy civils infrastructure project in Whitehaven. The role is central to project delivery, ensuring permanent and temporary works designs are integrated, assured and delivered in accordance with regulatory requirements, programme objectives and framework standards.

This role would suit an experienced civil engineering professional who enjoys leading multidisciplinary design teams within complex infrastructure environments. It is ideal for someone confident working within regulated sectors such as nuclear, energy or defence, who can coordinate stakeholders, manage technical risk and ensure designs align with construction, safety and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage civil and structural design activities from concept through to construction support and project handover.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Design Management Plan in line with regulatory standards and project procedures.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams and specialist consultants operating within the civils design framework.
  • Manage design change control processes, ensuring impacts on safety, cost and programme are assessed and controlled.
  • Act as the key interface for design matters with project stakeholders, supporting programme, commercial and risk teams.

This role comes with an excellent overall package, starting with a salary range of £62,000-£71,000. In addition, the roles come with a car allowance of £6,325, 8% pension contributions, private medical insurance and 25 days annual leave + bank holidays.
