Chemist, Contract, approx 3months, upto £23 an hour- Dependent on experience

Working hours are Mon-Thurs 8am-4:30pm, Fri 8am-1pm.

A pivotal role in environmental compliance management, this position oversees chemical control and waste disposal procedures, ensuring adherence to legal, local authority, regulatory, and internal requirements. The role demands a thorough understanding of COSHH and REACH guidelines, coupled with extensive experience in coolant management systems and environmental waste streams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • NDT:

    • Safe disposal of waste chemicals
    • Liaison with local authorities on Prescribed Processes Regulations
    • Training and advice on chemical usage, handling, and safety
    • Support for chemical analysis and stock lost tests
  • Water Treatment Plant:

    • Daily checks on pH and flow
    • Maintenance of equipment and liaison with United Utilities
    • Checks on water purification plant
  • Coolants:

    • Daily checks on central coolant system
    • Maintenance and control of equipment
    • Regular checks on tramp oil and waste coolant systems
    • Coolant awareness training for employees
  • Waste Disposal:

    • Safe disposal of hazardous waste
    • Management of waste contractors and licenses
    • Annual site registration as a hazardous waste producer
    • Record-keeping of landfill and recycled materials
  • Hazardous Materials:

    • Assessment of hazardous materials on-site
    • Ensuring up-to-date safety data sheets
    • Providing information and training on hazardous substances
  • REACH:

    • Representation on REACH issues
    • Responding to customer queries and supplier contact
    • Addressing REACH implications for new processes
  • Legionella Control:

    • Liaison with contractors and monthly risk assessments
    • Weekly running of little-used taps for Legionella risk minimization
  • General Health & Safety:

    • Risk assessments, specifically COHH risk assessments
    • EcoVadis methodology adherence
    • Environment aspect assessment for ISO14001
    • Support for accident investigations

Hourly rate is upto £23 an hour - Dependent on experience.
