Job description

Designing Scientific Instruments can be complex.

With moving parts and complicated components, detail is absolutely paramount when it comes to engineering such instruments. To go into a role like this with authority, you should have been there, done that, made the mistakes, and be able to wear them as experience.

We are working with a privately owned firm who specialise in the manufacturing devices that have a range of uses, from wound management, electrification of vehicles and even monitoring volcanic activity!

The role is for a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong 3D Design experience with Solidworks, know how to take a product from cradle to grave, but you'll also be a grafter who is able to 'do the do'.

There are plenty of growth opportunities in the firm. With private investment, they are currently expanding their shop floor by 15% due to record sales year on year for the last few years - in spite of COVID. They are a stable firm who made no redundancies over the period and are able to really grow from a position of strength. With investment in people, in machinery and in their software capabilities over the last few years, they are serious about growth of their people. They are looking for people who are keen to join a friendly and respectful culture that has a family feel to it.

The role involves:

  • A mix of Design Engineering of products from cradle to grave, but also continuous improvement of existing products using Solidworks.
  • Working with the manufacturing team to ensure products meet with customer scope and expectations
  • Generation and Maintenance of documents in the PDM system.

In return, you'll receive a salary of £27k-£32k dependent on experience with regular pay reviews, 23 days holiday rising to 29 days with experience, a pension contribution of 4% to add to your 5% and a discretionary bonus. You'll also have the opportunity to grow within the firm who will look to your strengths and work with you to achieve where you'd like to be.
